The two-year moved 14bp, and the VIX fell
Warsh named PCE as the gauge he acts on, put its six-month run rate at 4.1% against 3.7% over twelve months, took the Fed's responsibility for 65 months of elevated inflation, and said credit markets show few signs of policy restraint. The two-year rose 14bp against three on the thirty. Equity volatility fell anyway.

The front end took all of it
2-yr +14bp · 30-yr +3bpThe two-year rose 14bp to 4.34%, the five-year 10bp, the ten 6bp, and the thirty 3bp. That is a bear flattener, and 10s2s went from 47bp to 39bp in a session. For the three days before this the entire curve had moved in parallel and refused to change shape, which was a market declining to guess. It got its answer and repriced the part of the curve the Fed actually controls.
He named the gauge, and it's accelerating
PCE 3.7% · 6-mo 4.1%Warsh called the 2% objective "a firm, fixed target" measured on PCE, then gave the readings: 3.7% over twelve months and 4.1% annualised over six. The six-month running hotter than the twelve is the whole problem — it says the trend is going the wrong way, not converging slowly. His standard followed: confidence that underlying inflation is moving to target "clearly and at sufficient speed. Otherwise, we have work to do."
Few signs of policy restraint
Credit spreads near lowsThe line that repriced the front end was about credit, not inflation. Warsh said credit markets show "few signs of policy restraint", with corporate bond spreads near the low end of their historical range and bank lending standards on the easier end of theirs. A Chair who says policy isn't biting is a Chair describing room to tighten, whatever he declines to promise about doing it.
No guidance, and no reaction function either
65 monthsHe gave the market nothing to trade off directly. Forward guidance in normal times "should be limited and circumscribed. Otherwise it risks creating ambiguity in the name of clarity", and mechanical rules are out because "accuracy in economic forecasting is still just an aspiration." What he did give was ownership: 65 months of sustained, elevated inflation sits "squarely with the central bank. And that is where it belongs." A Chair who accepts the blame is telling you what he intends to do about it.
The AI complex wore it
MRVL −10.3% · NVDA −4.6%Marvell fell 10.28% to $216.62, the day after a record quarter with data centre up 46% and a raised two-year outlook. Nvidia dropped 4.57%, the semiconductor ETF 3.47% and biotech 3.48%. The Russell gave up 1.39% while the Dow finished flat at −0.02%. Long duration equity is where a hawkish repricing lands first, and Marvell went into it up 170% on the year.
And equity volatility fell
VIX 14.43 −0.55%On a day the front end moved 14bp, the Nasdaq 100 lost 0.70% and the Russell 1.39%, the VIX went down. That is the most interesting number on the page. Either the options market reads this as a rates event that equities absorb from here, or it hasn't finished reading it. Those are very different weeks, and nothing in Friday's tape settles which.
